Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the location of the papers, their importance, and the requested action. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the papers are important is brief, and the request for the manager to send them via mail is functional but lacks a professional polish. To reach a higher band, you should expand slightly on the context of the meeting or the specific nature of the documents to provide more depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the narrative. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'Moreover' is used to introduce the request, which is not the most logical choice in this context. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack smooth connections, such as the abrupt start to the second paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences flow naturally into one another would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several errors in word choice and form that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'inquiry' instead of 'inquire', 'lost' instead of 'loss', and 'curial' instead of 'crucial'. These errors suggest a lack of precision in word formation. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, you need to focus on using words accurately in their correct grammatical forms to achieve a higher score. Expanding your range of formal business-related vocabulary would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('there is title'), tense usage ('I checkout' instead of 'I checked out'), and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of commas and periods. These errors are noticeable and require the reader to re-read certain parts to understand the intended meaning. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb tenses and consistent punctuation, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
