Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to draw your attention towards the documents that I forgot during my recent visit at your hotel.
When I was checking out during the last moments, I received a call from my business partner. I had to receive that call because it was about important business meeting. Since my hands were occupied with some items, I think I put my documents related to my new venture on the reception desk.
I believe that papers are really essential for me. I cannot order the raw fabrics for my textile business without those papers. In addition, all receipts of payment are also in that file. If I do not receive those, I might fail to achieve profit in my business since I do not have online records of the bills.
I would be grateful if you could ask your staff who manage reception desk about my documents. Alternatively, you can check your CCTV records if the staff don't find those papers.
I sincerely hope you will take my missed documents into your consideration and take measures to find at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Miral Khunt.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified where the papers were left (reception desk), explained their importance (textile business operations and payment receipts), and provided clear instructions to the manager. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, providing a logical narrative that allows the reader to understand the urgency of the situation. The response is fully focused on the task requirements without any irrelevant information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow the narrative easily. You have used a range of cohesive devices such as 'Since', 'In addition', 'Alternatively', and 'If' to link ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the transition between the problem description and the requested action is smooth. The overall structure is coherent and professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly and professionally. Phrases like 'draw your attention towards', 'new venture', and 'at your earliest convenience' are well-suited to the formal context. While the vocabulary is generally accurate, there are minor instances where word choice could be more precise, such as 'receive that call' (instead of 'take that call') or 'achieve profit' (instead of 'make a profit'). However, these do not impede communication and the range is adequate for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. There are a few minor slips, such as 'forgot during my recent visit at your hotel' (should be 'left during my recent visit to your hotel') and 'find at your earliest convenience' (missing the object 'them'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the meaning is always clear, and the grammatical control is consistent throughout the text.
