You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I forgot important documents at the reception.

Yesterday, when i was going back from office, I forgot to take file of home property documents in the upper drawer of reception storage. The docs are in a Blue colored enveloped with a circular texture in a large file.

I am mainly writing this as the papers are urgently required by this evening because, I sold my house and those are needed badly to the property buyer. Without proper documentation it might delay the deal.

It would be helpful if you check whether the papers are in the correct place or i needed to find somewhere else. If you get the documents please send me scanned pictures of those through E-mail or leave a message to my personal phone.

I would be really appreciate for your help and cooperation.

kind regards,

Lovepreet Singh Brar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly identified the location of the papers, explained their importance regarding your house sale, and provided specific instructions to the manager. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir' is slightly less formal than the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam'. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the urgency of the situation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all instructions provided in the prompt are followed precisely, such as the opening salutation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the request. There is a clear progression of ideas from the initial problem to the explanation and finally the call to action. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Yesterday' and 'Without proper documentation', to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and transitions between sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which is a key requirement for this band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'urgently required' and 'cooperation' are appropriate for the context. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'forgot important documents at the reception' (should be 'left') and 'needed badly to the property buyer' (should be 'needed by'). Additionally, 'Blue colored enveloped' contains a spelling error ('enveloped' instead of 'envelope'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms to enhance the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'i was going back from office' (missing 'the' and 'my'), 'i needed to find' (should be 'do I need'), and 'I would be really appreciate' (should be 'I would really appreciate'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some inconsistencies with capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization will help improve your accuracy.
