You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform you about some missing papers which I believe I have left at the hotel. At first, I would like to thank you for the wonderful hospitality and excellent service provided by your staff during my stay. Though, I came back home with satisfaction and joy, I became frustrated on myself after remembering those papers.

I am certain that I kept those papers in the bed side drawer. I had to leave the hotel in a hurry as a result I forgot to put the papers in my bag.

Those papers contain the price quotation of my next project. Contents of those papers shouldn't be shared with our rival companies so I put them on an envelop and securely stored in the drawer.

Could you please send someone to the room I stayed which is room number 302 and get checked? If you get the envelop please send me back by courier. I am willing to pay the cost. My address is provided in my room booking details.

I would highly appreciate your kind attention and necessary prompt action into this matter.

Yours Sincerely

Jamil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly state where the papers were left (the bedside drawer in room 302), explain their importance (price quotations for a project that must remain confidential from rivals), and provide a clear request for action (checking the room and sending the envelope via courier). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the opening pleasantries to the problem, the explanation, and finally the request for action. You use some cohesive devices effectively, such as 'as a result' and 'if you get the envelope'. However, the transition between the first and second paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and the use of 'Though' at the start of the third sentence is grammatically awkward. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the message is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hospitality', 'price quotation', and 'confidential'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'frustrated on myself' (should be 'frustrated with myself') and 'put them on an envelop' (should be 'put them in an envelope'). While you attempt to use more formal language, some phrasing is slightly unnatural. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I believe I have left' (should be 'I believe I left'), 'get checked' (should be 'check it'), and 'send me back' (should be 'send it back to me'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor issues with comma usage. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of prepositions and phrasal verbs.
