Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter regarding to inform you that I left my personal documents in the office. As these documents are so crucial and I have to get it those by tomorrow.

To begin with, I believe that I last saw those papers on coffee table near to my work place. There are two coffee table, so i think it was on the beige shade desk. Moreover, If it will not be there so another possibility is, It can be in lunch room area. These are the only 2 places where documents can be.

These documents are my Visa documents which need to be submit by tomorrow. The reason for this is that i am applying for USA visa for visiting on my sister's wedding. The due date for submitting these papers are due tomorrow.

At the last, I wanted to request you that if you can help me by mailing these to my address. Or can you hand it over to the receptionist so I can grab from them early in the morning.

Your Faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state where the documents were left, explain their importance (visa application for a wedding), and provide clear instructions to the manager. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir' is slightly less standard than 'Dear Sir or Madam' as requested. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the urgency of the situation. To improve, ensure you follow the specific instructions regarding the opening salutation provided in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'At the last' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or unnatural. For instance, 'At the last' is not standard English; 'Finally' or 'In conclusion' would be more appropriate. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'get it those', which creates a slight disruption in flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying your meaning. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'get it those', 'grab from them', and 'need to be submit'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that verbs are used in the correct form after modal verbs (e.g., 'need to be submitted').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('There are two coffee table') and passive voice construction ('need to be submit'). There are also issues with article usage and pronoun reference ('It can be in lunch room area'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would significantly improve your score.
