Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you in finding my important documents in your hotel which I forgot to take back during the check-out time.
Last week, I was stayed in your hotel for two days in the room 402 in order to attend business meetings. During my stay, I attended first meeting with my clients in the meeting hall and second one with business parties, which was in my room. So, I think maybe I put the valuable papers in first drawer of table in my room and forgot to took back when I left the hotel.
Those documents are really essential for me, because papers contain information about ongoing project works and signed papers. If I will not get it back, I will not continue my work and meet the deadlines of targets. As a result, it will reduce my productivity, damage my professional image among the staff and boos and put negative marking in my performance report.
I will appreciate it if you could inquire to lost and found counter in your hotel related to my documents or ask to your housekeeping staff for it. Please start the searching procedure for my documents soon. Also, I am ready to pay the charges of delivery and I will send you my home address.
I hope you consider my request and help me to overcome this problems soon. I look forward to your prompt response in this matter.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly identified the location of the papers (the drawer in room 402), explained their significance regarding your professional responsibilities and deadlines, and provided clear instructions to the manager regarding the search and potential delivery. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a business traveler. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of the importance of the documents is slightly more concise to maintain a better balance across the three required points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. You use some cohesive devices such as 'As a result' and 'Also', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the problem to the impact and finally to the requested solution. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the connection between sentences is smoother, avoiding repetitive structures at the start of your paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional image', 'productivity', and 'prompt response'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'request you in finding' (should be 'request your assistance in finding') and 'boos' (likely a typo for 'bosses'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered 'flexible' or 'sophisticated'. Focusing on more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms will help you move into a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I was stayed' (should be 'I stayed'), 'forgot to took back' (should be 'forgot to take back'), and 'overcome this problems' (should be 'overcome these problems'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tense consistency and subject-verb agreement, especially when using complex structures.
