Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to the manager of king hotel. I am a employee of Rather group ltd and Last sunday a meeting was held in a hall wich is located on the first floor of your hotel. Every employee was carrying there on documents and progress reports and I put my folder on a table no. 6. Later our team leader announced my name and asked to share my presentation then I kept the documents on the table and forget to take them back. Therefore, I believe I might have lost my papers in the hall.
Those paper are crucial for me because proof of the progress is must to apply for this month salary not only this but also I won't be eligible to apply for additional bonus and incentives unless I get my reports back.
I request you to enquire about this folder from the cleaning staff or supervisor. I would really appreciate your efforts.
Your sincerely,
Arsh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state where the papers were left (table no. 6 in the hall), explain their importance regarding your salary and bonuses, and provide a clear request for the manager to check with staff. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening salutation was slightly inconsistent with the prompt's instruction. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, with a clear progression from the situation to the explanation and finally the request. Paragraphing is used to separate these ideas, which helps the reader follow the narrative. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Phrases like 'not only this but also' are used, but the overall flow could be improved with more varied linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. The referencing is generally clear, though some minor mechanical errors in sentence structure slightly affect the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'crucial', 'eligible', and 'incentives'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'wich' instead of 'which', 'there on' instead of 'their own', and 'enquire' used correctly but in a context that could be more precise. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I am a employee' (should be 'an'), 'forget to take' (should be 'forgot'), and 'Those paper are' (should be 'Those papers are'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
