Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir or madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this to apprise you regarding the important documents mistakenly left in the hotel room.
I had stayed at room number 202 for one night on 29 august, 2026. I was in hurry for arriving on time at the airport .After i checked out and reached the airport, i realized that my requisite papers are missing . I must have left it in the locker provided in my room.
Those documents pertains to the meeting for which i stayed in the hotel. Those documents are related to contracts which are of utmost importance to the company i work with.
This would be of great help if the papers can be mailed to me by urgent post. I will be bearing all the expenses related to this . I am very apprehensive about the safety of the papers.
i appreciate your great cooperation in this matter.
Kind regards
Deepika Verma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the location of the papers (the locker in room 202), explain their importance (contracts for your company), and provide a clear request for action (mailing them via urgent post). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. To improve, you could expand slightly on the specific nature of the documents to make the sense of urgency more convincing, but overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear progression from the purpose of the letter to the details of the incident and the requested solution. Paragraphing is used to separate these ideas effectively. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. While the flow is clear, the transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion. For example, using linking words like 'consequently' or 'furthermore' would help connect your ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using formal expressions such as 'apprise you', 'requisite papers', and 'utmost importance'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'bearing all the expenses' (which is understandable but slightly unnatural; 'covering all expenses' is more common). You also have some minor errors in capitalization, such as 'i' instead of 'I' and 'august' instead of 'August'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Those documents pertains') and article usage ('in hurry'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before periods in several places. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent capitalization and punctuation throughout your writing.
