Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. My name Sam Mistry and I am writing this regarding the employment letter which I left on my desk.
As you know, my health card is expiring next week and I completely forgot about the renewal. However, few days ago, I discovered about it and requested HR for the latest employment letter in order to renew health card. Furthermore, today I had excessive work and I left my letter on my desk.
My employment letter is very important because not only this is the only document requires for the renewal but also it took one week to create it. Without it, I will not be able to process my application.
Therefore, I requesting to you to take those letters from my desk and you can either put it in the main office or give it to my colleague. I will grab it tomorrow as soon as possible from him.
Once again, thank you so much for helping.
Yours faithfully,
Sam Mistry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state where the papers were left (on the desk), explain their importance (health card renewal), and provide instructions to the manager. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is slightly repetitive, particularly regarding the importance of the document. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of why the papers are important is more concise and focused, allowing more room to elaborate on the specific location or the urgency of the situation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Therefore', and 'not only... but also'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the health card issue and the work situation could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in linking phrases would enhance the overall progression of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renewal', 'employment letter', and 'application'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'requested HR for' (should be 'requested an employment letter from HR') and 'excessive work' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would characterize a higher band score. Focus on using more natural collocations for professional correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'My name Sam Mistry' (missing 'is'), 'few days ago' (missing 'a'), and 'the only document requires' (should be 'required'). Additionally, 'I requesting to you' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'I am requesting that you'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over verb forms and articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
