Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the location of the papers, their importance, and the requested action. However, the development of these points is somewhat unclear due to awkward phrasing. For instance, the explanation of why the papers are important is repetitive and lacks professional clarity. While the task requirements are met, the tone is inconsistent for a formal letter to a hotel manager, and the lack of paragraphing makes the structure feel rushed. To improve, ensure each bullet point is clearly separated into its own paragraph and use more formal, precise language to explain the situation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks proper paragraphing, which is a significant requirement for formal correspondence. The ideas are presented in a single block, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the request. While there is a logical flow from the problem to the solution, the lack of cohesive devices (such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition') makes the writing feel disjointed. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks for each section of the letter and incorporate linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with several spelling errors such as 'CONVERSTAION', 'MAINTENENCE', and 'YPU'. The word choice is often informal or imprecise, such as 'get this report paper' and 'on off today'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express the ideas with the necessary professional tone required for this task. To improve, focus on learning formal business collocations and proofreading your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that detract from the professional quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with verb tense consistency ('I forget' instead of 'I forgot'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as the long, confusing sentence beginning with 'I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW'. The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using correct punctuation to separate distinct ideas.
