Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my concern about my car details paper I left in the room no. 401 of your hotel during my stay. It's been a couple of day since the 4 days staycation I had at your hotel, that my car papers are not with me.
As much as I can recall it should be in the right side brown color cupboard within the small blue bag. They are crucial for me as I have to submit them to the bank manager on the coming monday for my loan process. Moreover, as my appointment is confirmed with the bank team I don't want to cancel or reschedule it.
I want you to kindly locate the papers and keep it safe with you, so that I can come by and grab them. Please keep me updated as soon as you find them.
Yours sincerely,
Isha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly identified the location of the papers, explained their importance regarding your bank loan, and provided a clear request for the manager to secure them. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing are consistent with the formal tone; while 'Dear Sir' is acceptable, 'Dear Sir or Madam' was requested in the prompt, and 'Yours sincerely' is typically used when the name is known, whereas 'Yours faithfully' is standard when addressing 'Dear Sir or Madam'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your narrative. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'As much as I can recall' to link ideas. However, the transition between the first and second sentences is slightly awkward ('It's been a couple of day since... that my car papers are not with me'). Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'staycation', 'crucial', and 'reschedule'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'car details paper' (which should be 'car registration documents' or 'vehicle papers') and 'couple of day' (which should be 'couple of days'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. Incorporating more specific collocations related to lost property would improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'room no. 401' (should be 'Room 401'), 'couple of day' (pluralization error), and 'keep it safe' (should be 'keep them safe' to agree with 'papers'). Additionally, the sentence 'It's been a couple of day since the 4 days staycation I had at your hotel, that my car papers are not with me' is structurally confusing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
