Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
Hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter on behalf of my documents which I may have left in the hotel.
I think the documents are left in the drawer where the telephone was kept. While i was calling the restaurant for food i kept it inside the drawer. The documents are very important to me because my passport and my degree certificates are in the envelope. I would be obliged if you can send the documents it is a humble request . Documents are needed as soon as possible because i have to take admission in the university and they need the proof.
I would be pleased if you send my documents through fast track and what ever will be the charges will pay you. It is very important that the documents should be here by next day so that I can register my name in the university. I appreciate your involvement in my work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the location of the documents (the drawer near the telephone), explained their importance (passport and degree certificates for university admission), and stated your request for the manager to send them via a fast-track service. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although it could be slightly more professional. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the ideas are well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the urgency of your situation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the location of the items, the reason for their importance, and finally the requested action. However, the paragraphing is weak; the entire body of the letter is presented as one block of text. To improve, you should separate the introduction, the details of the lost items, and the call to action into distinct paragraphs. While you use some cohesive devices like 'because' and 'so that', the flow would be improved with a wider range of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly. You use relevant terms such as 'documents', 'passport', 'degree certificates', and 'admission'. However, there are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'on behalf of my documents' (which is incorrect; you should say 'regarding my documents') and 'take admission' (which should be 'apply for admission' or 'enroll'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the sophistication or variety that would push the score into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the documents are left' (should be 'were left'), 'what ever will be the charges will pay you' (which is awkward and missing a subject), and 'I have to take admission' (which is slightly unnatural). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of lowercase 'i' and missing spaces after commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
