Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my concern about the document which left in your hotel. I reserved a hotel room for 8th September.
It is really important paper for me as it is related to my job. I put inside the TV cabinet. I guess it should be there because I did not touch that afterwards. I was in rush so I forgot to check that drawer and did not collect my belongings. Furthermore, that document I need to submit for my presentation on next week. It would be great help if you could check once and find the paper. I apologize to give you a hard time. You can contact me anytime if you need any details of that paper. Once you will find out, I will personally come to collect that from your place.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I look forward to your prompt response.
Your faithfully,
Rutu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: identifying the location of the papers, explaining their importance, and requesting action from the manager. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the papers are for a job-related presentation, providing a bit more detail about the nature of the documents would have strengthened the response. The letter is clear and the purpose is immediately understood, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the problem, the explanation, and finally the request for action. Paragraphing is used, though the body of the letter could be split into two distinct paragraphs to better separate the explanation of the problem from the request for assistance. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Once you will find out' are used, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The overall flow is clear, and the reader can easily follow your train of thought throughout the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'belongings', 'submit', and 'prompt response'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'I apologize to give you a hard time', which is slightly unnatural; a more idiomatic phrasing would be 'I apologize for the inconvenience'. Additionally, there are minor errors in article usage, such as 'It is really important paper', where 'an' is required. Despite these small slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles, such as 'the document which left' (should be 'which I left') and 'on next week' (should be 'next week'). The phrase 'Once you will find out' is also grammatically incorrect; it should be 'Once you find them'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for basic article and tense errors would improve your score.
