Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student covers all bullet points required by the prompt successfully. They state where they think they left the papers by mentioning 'near the reception desk' and 'in your hotel during the business event'. They explain why they are important by detailing that the blue file contains 'my passport, my bith certificate and some more important papers'. Finally, they tell the manager what to do by asking them to 'ask your staff if they found any kind of documents file near the reception' and inquiring where to pick it up. The tone is appropriately formal for a business context, although the closing remark about expecting a response within 24 hours is slightly abrupt. Overall, the requirements of the task are well addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear logical organization with an appropriate opening and closing. Information is broken down into paragraphs, moving from the context of the visit to the description of the items, and finally to the call to action and contact details. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'For instance', 'Furthermore', and 'If you need'. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular, with short, single-sentence paragraphs breaking the flow, and referencing is occasionally basic. Nonetheless, the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow and meets the requirements for a coherent general correspondence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'business event', 'documents', 'reception desk', and 'contact details'. However, there are notable spelling errors such as 'impotant' instead of 'important', 'bithcertificate' instead of 'birth certificate', 'recption' instead of 'reception', and 'respone' instead of 'response'. There are also minor lexical awkwardness instances, such as 'organized by me and my fellow mates' rather than colleagues or business associates. Despite these vocabulary and spelling inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses ('If you need any other detail regarding the file...') and relative clauses ('that was organized by me'). There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including spacing issues around commas, missing capitalization on 'Thankyou', and a typo in spacing ('Yu' instead of 'you'). Additionally, the sentence 'I am writing this letter formally to inform you that I left...' is a bit wordy. Despite these recurring errors, the majority of the sentences are understandable and do not impede the overall communication of the message.
