Student answer (Band 4.0)
Dear Sir, I hope you are doing well. I recently organised whole day meeting which took place at your hotel. The hotel ambiance was very good and the meeting hall was very ventilated and chill. The staff was also very cooperated and kind. Behavior of all staff members was very jolly and respectful. Participants that are invited at the meeting really appreciated all the efforts of your staff members but everyone is very disappointed after eating lunch. The food is not well cooked and the meat is not properly washed also the chef add so much spices . So, no one eat properly and due to uncooked meat some participants are suffering from cholera. I also don't take more than one bite due to extra chilli but i personally like the unity between your staff.
So, i humbly requested you to please trained ur chef or higher a new and provide your coustomers food that is full of nutrients. So , your coustomers increased day by day.
your's sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.5
The candidate attempts to address the prompt, but there is a major issue with task relevance and the specific bullet points required by the instructions. The task specifically asks the writer to say where they think they left the papers, explain why they are important, and tell the manager what to do regarding the papers. However, the student devotes the entire letter to complaining about the food at the lunch and suggesting the chef be trained or replaced, completely omitting the location of the papers, their importance, and any instructions regarding them. While the format is structured as a letter, the failure to address the core requirements of the task means the response falls into the lower band categories for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The letter lacks logical organisation and clear progression. Because the content shifts immediately into an unexpected complaint about food quality without introducing the papers mentioned in the prompt, the overall structure is confusing. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the entire body of the letter compressed into a single dense block of text, making it difficult to follow the writer's line of thought. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences abruptly with 'So,' and 'So, i humbly requested'. There is a lack of effective referencing or transitional phrases to guide the reader through the text smoothly, resulting in a disjointed flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by inaccurate word choices and word-formation errors. Examples include 'whole day meeting', 'very ventilated and chill', 'very cooperated', and 'cholera' used incorrectly in place of food poisoning. There are also frequent spelling and phrasing issues, such as 'coustomers', 'higher' instead of hire, and 'add so much spices'. While the writer attempts some descriptive vocabulary like 'ambiance', 'jolly', and 'nutrients', the lexical range is severely limited, and errors in collocation and spelling cause noticeable strain for the reader throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentence structures with frequent errors that persistently affect readability and meaning. There are multiple basic errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'the chef add so much spices', 'no one eat properly', and 'I also don't take more than one bite'. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences like 'i humbly requested' and 'So, i'. Complex sentence forms are virtually absent, and the frequency of grammatical errors causes constant difficulty and distraction for the reader.
