Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully covered all parts of the task prompt. First, you specified where you likely left the papers, mentioning room number 203, next to the study table on the sofa and a smaller table beside it. Second, you explained why they are crucial by stating that an important meeting is coming up next week and the documents play a vital role. Third, you clearly instructed the manager on what to do by asking him to hand the papers over to your friend staying in room 101. However, the tone and salutation are slightly inconsistent; you addressed the manager as 'Dear Rohan' instead of the required 'Dear Sir or Madam' or a formal title, and signed off with 'Yours faithfully' while using an informal opening name. Despite this minor lapse in register, all bullet points are addressed satisfactorily, earning a band score of 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter has a recognizable overall structure divided into clear paragraphs for your introduction, explanation, request, and sign-off. However, there are issues with cohesion and referencing. You start the letter by addressing the manager informally as 'Dear Rohan', but later refer to him formally in the prompt context. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly used, such as starting a sentence with 'So, that i can get documents on the time.' Paragraph progression is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences feel a bit disjointed due to run-on phrasing and punctuation errors. Overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow your narrative easily, leading to a band score of 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrated an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'vacation', 'corridor', 'checkout', and 'vital role'. There are, however, several lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as writing 'I am writing a letter to let you know about, two days ago I was their in your hotel' (where 'there' is misspelled as 'their' and the prepositional phrasing is clunky). You also use repetitive phrasing when referring to the documents. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, errors in spelling and collocation prevent you from achieving a higher band. Because communication remains clear despite these flaws, this warrants a band score of 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You utilized a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your response, such as conditional and multi-clause sentences. However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes. For instance, there are comma splices and run-on sentences ('I vividly remember, i was setting next the study table...'), incorrect prepositions ('setting next the study table' instead of 'sitting next to'), and capitalization issues with the pronoun 'i'. Verb tenses also fluctuate awkwardly between past and present. These errors occasionally disrupt the flow of reading, but they do not impede overall comprehension. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors corresponds to a band score of 5.5.
