Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The candidate addresses all three bullet points required in the task instructions. They successfully state where the papers were left, mentioning 'the drawer of computer desk' in room 405. They explain why the documents are important by noting that 'they related my bussiness meeting' and are crucial to 'launch our new bussiness plan.' Finally, they instruct the manager on the required action, asking them to parcel the documents to a given address and offering to pay for shipping. The tone is appropriately formal for a business letter, starting with 'Dear Sir or Madam,' and closing with 'yours sincerely.' All parts of the prompt are covered, and the purpose of the letter is clearly communicated throughout. Therefore, this response meets the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement, and the purpose of the message is understandable from beginning to end. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic, with single-sentence paragraphs used frequently (e.g., 'My is Lovepreet singh...' and 'I hope you pay attention...'), which detracts from the structural flow. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes awkward, such as starting sentences without clear transitions or using punctuation incorrectly, as seen in commas placed before spaces ('...inform you that ,I have been...'). Referencing is mostly clear, but the organization lacks smooth transitions between ideas. This level of organization and mechanical cohesion corresponds to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, such as 'document,' 'drawer,' 'project,' and 'packaging.' However, there are numerous word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'wirting' for writing, 'bussiness' for business, 'docments' for documents, and 'enevlope' for envelope. Furthermore, collocation and phrasing are sometimes unnatural, as in 'I have been forget my work document' instead of 'I forgot my work documents.' While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally pause, they do not completely impede overall communication. This performance aligns with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few clumsy attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as tense misuse ('I have been stayed' instead of 'I stayed', 'I have been forget' instead of 'I forgot'), missing articles ('in room number 405', 'to given address'), and subject-verb agreement issues. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, evidenced by lowercase letters at the start of clauses ('so i had lot') and mismanaged commas. Because the frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and accurate complex structures are rare, a Band 4.5 is appropriate, rounded to 5.0.
