Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task prompt. You clearly stated where the papers were left, mentioning your hotel room number 'A-410'. You explained why they are important by stating they are your 'Home Property paers' which you needed to show your advocate. Finally, you told the manager what you want him to do by requesting either a trusted team member to bring them if they are visiting near your home, or to courier them. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager, although the salutation should ideally be 'Dear Sir or Madam,' as instructed in the prompt. All parts of the task are adequately covered, leading to a solid performance for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and the progression of ideas is generally clear, moving logically from the problem to the explanation and finally to the requested action. However, paragraphing is somewhat problematic; the letter contains long, run-on sentences and comma splices that disrupt the natural flow of information. For instance, sentences like 'whenever i was went to birthday party first i was visited to my advocate that's why i bring it to the party, as i was in hurry yesterday...' string multiple clauses together without proper punctuation or transitional markers. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate. Improving punctuation and breaking down overly long sentences into separate paragraphs would greatly enhance the cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, allowing you to explain the situation clearly, but it is limited and contains several non-standard word choices and spelling errors. For example, you wrote 'paers' instead of 'papers', 'bring' instead of 'brought', and 'trustable' instead of 'trustworthy'. Phrases like 'priority level' are understandable but somewhat unnatural in this context. While these lexical errors and misspellings do not completely impede communication, they restrict your score. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of precise vocabulary and ensure correct spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is a weak area. There are frequent errors in verb tense, agreement, and sentence structure throughout the letter. For instance, 'Hope this letter find you good spirit and wellness' contains subject-verb agreement issues ('finds') and unnatural phrasing. Furthermore, past events are often narrated using present or incorrect past forms, such as 'i was went' and 'i was bring'. There are also several run-on sentences linked solely by commas. While the meaning is generally retrievable, these frequent grammatical errors mean that error-free sentences are the exception rather than the majority.
