Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Manager,

I would like to request your kind consideration regarding my important papers, which i left somewhere in my hotel room. I am not sure where i have put, but it would be near the vanity table, because that was the last location when i completed paper work.

I would like to inform you that those paper are very important from me because i have a my job interview in this evening and those documents will be needed for my qualification.

I would be greatful if you could find those documents from my room and send me to my adress, sothat i can reach at company before interview started.

I hope you will look into this matter and take the necessary action at the earliest. I shall be highly grateful for your kind consideration. Your prompt and positive response will be highly appreciated.

Thank you for that

Your faithful,

Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score. You have fulfilled the requirements by stating where you think the papers were left near the vanity table, explaining their importance due to an upcoming job interview, and clearly instructing the manager to find them and send them to your address. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout and the tone is generally appropriate for a formal communication with a hotel manager. However, some ideas could be slightly more extended and polished to reach higher levels, as certain sentences are a bit repetitive regarding your expressions of gratitude. Overall, the communication of your message is clear and directly tackles the necessary bullet points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The overall arrangement of ideas is coherent, moving smoothly from the opening statement of the problem to the explanation of importance, followed by your request for action and the closing remarks. You have used basic cohesive devices and referencing adequately to guide the reader through the text, such as "I would like to inform you that..." and "I would be greatful if you could...". Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your ideas into manageable sections. To achieve an even higher standard, cohesive devices could be employed with greater flexibility and variety, and referencing could be tightened to ensure the transitions between your thoughts feel completely natural and unobtrusive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common words and phrases such as "vanity table" and "prompt and positive response". However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies that prevent a higher score. For instance, "paper work" should be written as a single word ("paperwork"), "greatful" is misspelled ("grateful"), "adress" contains a typo ("address"), and phrases like "send me to my adress" demonstrate minor collocation and preposition issues. Additionally, terms like "those paper" contain singular/plural agreement issues that stem from word choice control. These errors do not impede communication, but refining your spelling and word forms will significantly elevate your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as "I would be greatful if you could find those documents from my room and send me to my adress..." However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that place this criterion at the current level. Examples include missing articles and pronouns ("which i left", "where i have put", "have a my job interview", "in this evening"), lowercase personal pronouns ("i"), and awkward phrasing like "reach at company before interview started". Prepositions inside grammatical patterns also show some instability. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they demonstrate a lack of consistent control over complex structures and punctuation.
