Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am Dhvani Tailor, a regular customer of the Royal Hotel, Navsari, writing this to make a request regarding the valuable papers that I left behind during my recent stay two days back.
Firstly, I booked a room number B7 for three days on date 27th September 2026. It was overall an amazing experience and I enjoyed a lot staying there. I have only one concern about the papers.
I came there for a business visit and attended meeting for a project. There are some important papers, I kept in the right side drawer of the dressing table. I forgot those documents there and I recognize it after I came back. Now, I would like to request you to send those papers via speed post to the given address below with this letter.
I apologise for the inconvenience caused from my side. I am ready for paying applicable fees for the courier service, I just want those paper before my final submission on date 5th October 2026. I would be grateful, if you could do this for me and assist me with the situation.
I look forward to hear from you. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Dhvani Tailor.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points of the prompt, earning a strong standing. You clearly state where you left the papers by mentioning the dressing table drawer in room B7, explain their importance by highlighting their necessity for your upcoming business meeting and final submission, and tell the manager what action to take by asking for them to be sent via speed post. The purpose of the letter is clear and sustained throughout the writing. To move even closer to top bands, some of the supporting details could be slightly more concise and focused, as phrases like 'I enjoyed a lot staying there' slightly distract from the urgent business focus of the letter, but overall the task is thoroughly addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter shows a clear overall arrangement with logical progression from introducing the issue to explaining its importance and finally requesting action. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your introduction, stay details, location of the documents, and your request. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, such as 'Firstly,' and 'Now, I would like to request you'. However, some elements of cohesion feel slightly mechanical or abrupt, such as the transition into 'I have only one concern about the papers.' Furthermore, referencing is occasionally repetitive, which keeps the text from achieving a fully seamless flow. To reach higher bands, you could use a wider range of subtler linking words and ensure every transition flows naturally into the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'regular customer', 'business visit', and 'courier service'. Communication is clear throughout, and the vocabulary is sufficient for you to convey your message precisely. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing. For instance, writing 'attended meeting for a project' lacks an article ('a meeting'), and 'ready for paying applicable fees' is slightly unnatural compared to 'ready to pay'. Additionally, you wrote 'recognize it after I came back' instead of the past tense 'realised'. These occasional lexical errors and minor awkwardness prevent the vocabulary score from rising further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a solid control over basic structures alongside attempts at more elaborate clauses, such as 'I would be grateful, if you could do this for me and assist me with the situation.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including unnecessary commas like the one before 'if you could do this', minor prepositional awkwardness in 'caused from my side' instead of 'on my part', and tense inconsistencies such as 'I look forward to hear from you' instead of 'hearing'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and your meaning remains entirely clear, fully reflecting a reliable handling of sentence patterns and punctuation.
