Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to you to inform about my important papers that I have left at your hotel during my stay on September 10, 2026 at room number 1006. According to me, I forgot my papers in the second drawyer that is right next to the window towards the balcony. If not there, it is possibile that you may get in the last drawyer that is close to bed on left side.
These papers are very important for me because they include the information about upcoming project of my company. Also, there is one most important certificate of property approval from the state goverenment and I can not access any other copy of that document.
In case you find out my papers, I would really appreciate your help to mail me at my home address at your earliest convenience. Also, if you could give me a call before mailing to my address once you find the documents would be more satistfactory for me.
Hoping to get my papers back. Thank you.
Kind regards,
Gkaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The response covers all parts of the task well, earning a high band. You successfully state where you think you left the papers, explaining they were left in 'the second drawyer that is right next to the window towards the balcony'. You also clearly explain why the documents are vital, mentioning the 'upcoming project of my company' and the 'certificate of property approval'. Finally, you tell the manager what action to take by asking them to mail the documents and call you beforehand. All three bullet points are well covered and fully addressed. To reach an even higher band, some of the supporting details could be slightly more elaborated with additional context, but your ideas are already well developed and fully relevant to the scenario.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
Your letter has a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Ideas are grouped sensibly into paragraphs, with the opening setting the context, the second paragraph explaining the importance of the papers, and the third detailing your requested actions. You use appropriate referencing and cohesive devices to connect your thoughts, such as 'Also' and 'In case you find out my papers'. However, paragraphing could be managed with even greater precision to ensure seamless transitions between your physical description of the room and the reasons for the documents' importance. Overall, the message flows smoothly and the progression of ideas is easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message about the lost papers and hotel room details. You attempt some less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'at your earliest convenience'. However, there are some spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, specifically 'drawyer' instead of 'drawer', 'possibile' instead of 'possible', and 'satistfactory' instead of 'satisfactory'. Furthermore, phrases like 'According to me' are less natural in this context compared to 'I believe' or 'As far as I recall'. These lexical slips and minor inaccuracies mean your vocabulary control sits comfortably at the functional level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct compound and subordinate clauses, such as in 'If not there, it is possibile that you may get in the last drawyer that is close to bed on left side.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in room number 1006', 'close to the bed', 'on the left side') and prepositions ('inform about my important papers' instead of 'inform you about'). While these errors are present, they rarely impede communication and your meaning remains clear throughout the letter, reflecting a solid command of basic structures combined with partial control of more complex sentence patterns.
