Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear SIr,
I am writnig to inquire about some papers which I left behind at your hotel room in the last saty at your hotel. I checked out from room 302 the last day.
I suspect that I inadvertently left a purple coloured folder containing thsoe papers inside the table drawer, or possibly on the desk next to the television.
These documents are crucial as they consist of my resume and cover letter required for my upcoming job interview. As I have a lack of time, I cannot prepare another CV. SO, I request you to check room 302 to see if the folder has been recovered by the housekeeping staff. If found, I wouild be extremely grateful if you could hold it securely at the front desk and notify me bt phone or email immediately. Alternatively, if possible, I am happy to cover the cost of express courier dispatch to my home address.
Thank you for your assistance, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Prapti Shastri

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
Your response covers all the required bullet points thoroughly and effectively. You clearly state where you left the papers by mentioning room 302 and specific locations like the table drawer or desk. You successfully explain why they are important by stating they consist of your resume and cover letter for an upcoming job interview. Furthermore, you tell the manager precisely what actions to take, asking them to check the room, hold the folder at the front desk, or arrange an express courier. Your ideas are well-developed and appropriate for a general correspondence task, showing a clear, polite tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
Your letter demonstrates a clear, logical organization and progression throughout. You manage cohesive devices well, utilizing transition markers and referencing phrases such as 'Alternatively, if possible' and 'If found, I would be extremely grateful' to connect your thoughts smoothly. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating your greeting, the context of the missing items, the detailed requests, and the sign-off into distinct, readable sections. Although cohesion is mostly well managed, a slightly more natural flow between the opening statement and the location details would elevate the structure even further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempt less common lexical items such as 'inadvertently', 'crucial', and 'express courier dispatch'. However, there are some noticeable slips in word choice, spelling, and word forms. For instance, 'writnig' contains a typo, 'saty' is misspelled, and phrases like 'at your hotel room in the last saty at your hotel' show some awkward repetition and minor collocation inaccuracies. While these lexical errors do not impede communication, eliminating these occasional slips and refining your control over less common vocabulary will help you achieve a higher standard.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You successfully use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional clauses ('If found, I would be extremely grateful') and relative clauses. There are several error-free sentences, demonstrating good overall control of grammar and punctuation. However, a few errors persist, such as capitalization issues ('SO'), preposition misuse ('in the last saty'), and slight awkwardness in phrases like 'As I have a lack of time'. Punctuation and verb forms are generally handled well, but tightening your control over minor structural patterns will ensure greater accuracy across all sentences.
