Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task. You stated where you left the papers, explaining that they were in the drawer on the left side of the table. You also explained why they are important, noting that they include your degrees and C.V. which you need as you are searching for a job. Finally, you told the manager what you want them to do by requesting that the papers be sent via a fast track service. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the explanation of how the papers were left is slightly repetitive, and the description of their importance is somewhat basic. To reach a higher level, you could extend and support your ideas with more precise details about your stay and the contents of the documents.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established right from the beginning. You have used paragraphing reasonably well to separate the introduction, the location of the items, their importance, and the final request. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and referencing is not always entirely clear, like the pronoun shifts in the final paragraph. To improve this criterion, you should use a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and transitional phrases to connect your ideas more smoothly and establish a clearer logical progression throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating a sufficient range for communicating everyday information. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'beneficial', but this is accompanied by some word-choice and spelling errors that slightly affect the precision of your message, such as 'decuments' instead of documents, 'forget' instead of forgot, and 'Thnak' instead of Thank. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight limitations in word form and spelling accuracy. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider range of precise lexical items with correct collocations and flawless spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and some attempt at complex sentence forms. There are some grammatical errors in tense usage and prepositions, such as 'time which I spend on your hotel' instead of spent in your hotel, 'I am writting' instead of writing, and 'wait your answer' instead of wait for your answer. Punctuation also has occasional flaws, such as missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences and incorrect letter closing formatting. These errors are noticeable but rarely impede overall communication. To move up to a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentence structures and demonstrate better control over verb tenses and prepositions.
