Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you that, I was at your restaurant two days ago on 1st october in the evening at 09:00 pm. While, I was seating at the corner seat besides order counter and I forgot my very crucial papers on the table. I just realised it now and was worried.
It is my medical reports so it is important to be private and secure. Moreover, I have an appointment in couple of days so I need that reports on an urgent basis and due to some inconveniences I could not able to come today to pick it up.
Could you please check with your staff is it still there at the restaurant and if I come to collect it tommorow in the morning. Even though, I have it's digital copy in my device but this documents need to secure so please keep it private and safe.
I would like to hear back from you.
Thank you,
Miral

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, showing a clear purpose throughout. You effectively state where you left the papers by mentioning the corner seat beside the order counter at the restaurant. You also explain why they are important by stating they are confidential medical reports needed for an upcoming appointment. Finally, you clearly tell the manager what action to take by asking them to check with the staff and keep the documents safe. All bullet points are covered adequately, and the tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To move even closer to a fully developed presentation, the description of the papers and the request could be expanded with slightly more elaborate context, but the current coverage successfully fulfils the requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You begin with an appropriate salutation, introduce your purpose in the opening paragraph, elaborate on the importance of the documents and your reasons for not collecting them in the second paragraph, and conclude with your request and a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Even though', and 'and' are used effectively to connect your ideas, although paragraphing could be structured slightly more traditionally with distinct breaks for each main point. Referencing is generally clear, guiding the reader smoothly from the location of the lost items to the requested action.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your message while attempting some less common lexical items such as 'crucial', 'confidential', and 'digital copy'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'besides order counter' instead of 'beside the ordering counter', and 'this documents need to secure' instead of 'these documents need to be secured'. Spelling is generally accurate, but minor word-choice slips prevent the range from appearing fully polished. To achieve a higher band, focus on precise collocations and correct word forms, such as ensuring proper plural agreement and using more sophisticated phrasing naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative and subordinate clauses such as 'While I was seating at the corner seat...' and 'Even though I have its digital copy...'. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense and verb form issues like 'I could not able to come' instead of 'I was not able to come', spelling/preposition slips like 'tommorow in the morning', and punctuation errors such as unnecessary commas after introductory phrases like 'While, I was seating'. While these errors do not impede communication and the meaning remains clear, the presence of frequent minor mistakes means control of grammar and punctuation needs to be more consistent for a higher band.
