Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You state where you think you left the papers, explaining that you last used your documents file in the hotel checking area. You also clearly explain why they are important, noting that your degree documents are essential for getting a job and that the university cannot issue duplicates. Finally, you tell the manager what action to take by asking them to instruct the staff to search for the papers. However, the response sits at a middle band because some of the ideas are slightly under-developed, and the tone wanders between formal and informal elements, which keeps it from fully achieving a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement with a logical sequence of ideas from identifying the problem to explaining its importance and finally requesting action. You use appropriate paragraphing to separate your main points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty due to repetitive transitions and referencing issues, such as the unclear pronoun reference in 'That papers are very crucial'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth connections, which prevents the progression of ideas from feeling entirely seamless. Organizing your thoughts with a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices would elevate this aspect of your writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less-common terms such as 'crucial'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the letter, including 'writting', 'Yesturday', 'Suddenlt', and 'figerout'. You also misuse certain words, such as 'on behalf of degree documents', which should be 'with my degree documents'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited but minimally adequate control of vocabulary and spelling for this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses like 'Which is located around the corner'. However, your writing contains frequent errors in sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'might be i forget the papers', 'room number 205 in your hotel. Which is located', and 'university dit not provide me documents second time'. These persistent errors and punctuation issues, including lowercase letters at the start of sentences and the sign-off 'yours faithfuly', mean that your control is limited to basic structures with frequent inaccuracies.
