Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to inform that I have forgot my important paper at the Taj hotel room no 32.
I woke up late in the morning so I was already late for my meetings. After that I was packing my luggage and I put the papers on the table. I was in rush so I think I left the papers on the table, which was behind the doors.
They are so important for me because it has some confidential information of my boss. I also need it to give my presentation infront of my collegues. The boss aksed me to bring it carefully at the office. However, I forgot it at the hotel.
I would appreciate it if you could place it at reception. I will send my driver so he will collect from there.
I hope you understand my situation. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Mahir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly: you identify the likely location (“on the table”), explain the papers’ importance through the confidential information and upcoming presentation, and request that they be left at reception for your driver. The letter’s purpose and polite tone are clear throughout. The explanation of why the papers matter is supported with relevant details, while the request could be more precise—for example, asking the manager to confirm whether the papers have been found and to keep them secure until collection. This would make the action you want especially clear. Overall, the task is fully addressed, with ideas extended and supported, though a little more detail about the requested handling would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: it explains the reason for writing, describes the circumstances of leaving the papers, gives their significance, and ends with a practical request and courteous closing. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and links such as “After that,” “because,” and “However” make the relationships between ideas understandable. The sequence around packing and leaving the papers is slightly awkward, and “I hope you understand my situation” repeats the polite closing sentiment without adding much. To make the organisation more polished, group the location details together and connect the request directly to the explanation of urgency. Cohesion is generally clear, although some linking is a little mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant terms such as “confidential information,” “presentation,” and “reception.” These choices help communicate the situation and the action you want. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “collegues,” “aksed,” and “infront.” Some phrases are also less natural in a formal letter: “forgot my important paper” and “I was in rush.” The reader can still understand your meaning, but more accurate collocations and careful spelling would make the letter sound more professional. Build on the useful task-specific vocabulary by learning complete phrases, rather than translating individual words directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including the conditional request “I would appreciate it if…” and the relative clause “which was behind the doors.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “I have forgot” uses the wrong past participle, and “it has some confidential information” does not agree naturally with the plural “papers.” Articles and sentence patterns also need attention in “at the Taj hotel room no 32” and “I will send my driver so he will collect from there.” Practise accurate verb forms, agreement, and article use, and vary sentence structures while checking each sentence for these points.
