Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to request you to search my educational documents that I left in the hotel during my stay of two days from Tuesday, 13 October to Wednesday 14 October.
I stayed in room no.17 and yesterday I came back to my home when I discovered that my educational documents file was missing from luggage. I recalled that I put papers in drawer of study table and unfortunately I forgot to take them out at the time of leaving room.
My educational papers contain my all academic record including secondary school certificate and higher school certificate. In addition, the original MBBS certificate is also present in the same file which concerns me the most. These documents are very valuable for me to acquire further studies. Furthermore, these papers are so important to seek job in future.
I would be grateful if you could take necessary steps to find my papers. I would appreciate it if you could also help me with futher steps to hand over the file after discovering. It would be convenient for me if you could courier papers to my address as soon as possible.
I am looking forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Rubab Asim

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three requested points clearly: you identify the likely location as the drawer of the study table in room 17, explain the papers’ importance by naming your academic certificates and future study and employment plans, and ask the manager to locate and courier the file. These details make the request specific and purposeful, and the formal opening and closing suit the situation. The explanation of importance is particularly well supported by the mention of the original MBBS certificate. To make the response even more complete, specify the address or contact details for delivery, or ask the manager to contact you to arrange couriering. Overall, the task is addressed fully, with only a small practical detail left implicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: the purpose of writing comes first, followed by where the papers were left, why they matter, and what action you want the manager to take. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Furthermore,” and “I would be grateful if” support the progression. The closing is also appropriate. Some connections are slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated addition markers in the paragraph about the documents’ importance. You could improve the flow by combining related reasons or using a more direct transition. The reference to couriering “to my address” is understandable, though the address itself is not supplied, leaving the final request less fully connected to the practical next step.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal request, including “academic record,” “original MBBS certificate,” “acquire further studies,” and “courier.” These choices communicate the situation and the documents’ significance. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices: “request you to search my educational documents” would be more natural as “ask you to look for my academic documents,” while “acquire further studies” should be “pursue further studies.” “Higher school certificate” may also not be the usual name for the qualification intended. The spelling “futher” is an additional slip. More precise, natural phrasing would make the letter sound more fluent and professionally controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes both straightforward statements and more complex forms, such as “I would be grateful if you could…” and “It would be convenient for me if…”. Most sentences are easy to understand, and the conditional requests are handled effectively. Some grammatical errors remain, including “I left in the hotel” (use “at the hotel”), “from Tuesday, 13 October to Wednesday 14 October” (the date phrase needs clearer punctuation), and “I put papers in drawer” (articles are needed). In “my all academic record,” the possessive and quantifier are incorrectly ordered; write “all my academic records.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but checking articles, prepositions, and sentence phrasing would improve accuracy while preserving your range of structures.
