Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly addresses all three required points. You identify a specific likely location—the small table near the window in room 4—explain the papers’ importance by mentioning business contacts, university documents, and an upcoming meeting, and make a clear request for the manager to check the room and keep the file safely. The reason for urgency is also supported by the possibility of getting into trouble without the documents. These relevant details make the purpose clear and the response well developed. To make the request even more complete, provide a contact number rather than saying only, “You can contact me on my phone number,” and clarify how the manager should arrange collection if the file is found. The formal letter format is appropriate overall.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible sequence: you explain why you are writing, describe where the file may be, give reasons it matters, and state what you want the manager to do. Linking phrases such as “because,” “so,” and “if” help show relationships between ideas, and the closing is suitable. This gives the letter a coherent overall arrangement. However, most of the content is presented in one long paragraph, so the stages of the message are not visually separated. Several ideas are also joined by commas, particularly around “I have very important meeting next week” and “I will be de in serious trouble.” Use separate paragraphs for the location, importance, and request, and divide long sentences to make the progression clearer and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and its urgency, including “business contact papers,” “university original documents,” “urgently,” and “keep the file safely.” The specific descriptions of the brown file and its contents help the reader understand what to look for. However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “in the best of your health,” “business contact papers,” and “keep the file safely.” Spelling and spacing problems, including “yestreday,” “containssome,” and “importantfor,” also make the writing less fluent to read. Aim for conventional formal-letter expressions and check spelling and word combinations carefully; this would make your meaning more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter attempts to combine ideas using subordinate clauses, for example, “because they are my business contact papers” and “if you could check my room.” This shows some range beyond short, simple statements. However, control is inconsistent, and several errors affect basic sentence accuracy: “will finds” should be “will find,” “This file containssome” needs a correctly formed verb and spacing, and “I have very important meeting” is missing an article. The sentence beginning “I have very important meeting next week” also runs into the next idea with a comma, creating a punctuation problem. Use a wider range of sentence patterns, but prioritise accurate verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. Proofreading each sentence separately would help.
