Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request you to help finding my important documents which I believe I forgot by mistake at your restaurant yesterday evening at 4pm.
As far as I can recall my memory, I arrived in the hotel with a folder holding in my hand and went straight to the table which I reserved. I had my coffe their and as I received an urgent phonecall and was in a rush I left the hotel in a hurry leaving my document folder on the table itself.
That folder had evidences which i collected for my next important presentation which is on Thursday this week, without which i cannot present my work.
I kindly request you to check with your workers about that folder if any one had found it and kept in the space provided for lost and found items. If you found them please give me call as soon as possibleon my num er [redacted phone].
Hoping for good luck and hearing back from you.
Yours sincerely,
Nabila.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three required points clearly. You identify the likely location as the restaurant table, explain that the folder contains evidence needed for a presentation on Thursday, and ask staff to check the lost-and-found area and contact you. These details make the purpose clear and the request practical. The explanation of the papers’ importance is especially specific, while the location is supported by a brief account of arriving, having coffee and leaving in a hurry. To make the response even more complete, clarify whether the meeting itself took place at the hotel and specify what you would like the manager to do if the folder is found, such as keep it securely or arrange its return. The formal letter format and closing are appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a sensible sequence: you state the reason for writing, describe where the folder may have been left, explain its importance, and make a request. The paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “As far as I can recall” and “If you found them” guide the reader through the message. Some links are less smooth, however. The long sentence beginning “As far as I can recall” combines several events, making the timeline harder to follow, and “Hoping for good luck and hearing back from you” does not connect naturally to the request. Use shorter sentences for the sequence of events and a conventional closing sentence, such as “I look forward to hearing from you.”
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “urgent phonecall,” “evidences,” “presentation,” and “lost and found items.” The reader can understand the main message, but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “forgot by mistake at your restaurant,” “As far as I can recall my memory,” and “give me call” do not sound idiomatic. There are also spelling or typing slips, including “coffe,” “their,” and “num er,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional phrases in a formal letter, such as “left at your restaurant,” “to the best of my recollection,” and “please call me.” Proofreading would help you retain your meaning while making the language more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, for example the sentence explaining that you were in a rush after receiving a phone call. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, articles, agreement and punctuation. In “I am writing this letter to request you to help finding,” the verb pattern should be “request your help in finding” or “ask you to help me find.” “I had my coffe their” also contains an incorrect form and a missing distinction between “there” and “their”; “If you found them please give me call” needs a clearer conditional structure and article. Break up the long sentence about arriving and leaving, and check sentence boundaries and capitalization, especially “i” and “I”.
