Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I accidentaly left some important documents at your hotel during my recent visit.
Few days ago I leaved hotel early in the morning and I was busy on my business call during that time and I think I left my documents in the hotel room. I attended business meeting there and stayed in room number 213. I am sure about that I may have forgotten them on the table because I was in hurry owing to my early morning flight.
These documents contain personal and professional information. Some papers are related to my job discription which are crucial for my next project. Moreover, some original certificates and offical records are included. Replacing these documents would be difficult and time-consuming.
I appreciate it if you check the room and lost-and-found department and ask from your cleaning stay if they found something. If you found then contact me immediately. If it is possible can you arrange safe delivery and I am ready to pay charges.
I am looking to your response.
Yours sincerely,
Kirandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three required points clearly. You identify the likely location as room 213, explaining that you may have left the papers on the table while rushing to catch an early flight. You also make their importance specific by mentioning work-related material, original certificates and official records, and explain that replacing them would be difficult. Your request to check the room and lost-and-found, ask cleaning staff, contact you, and arrange delivery is practical and complete. These details develop the purpose of the letter well. To make the response even more polished, clarify whether the papers were left during the meeting visit or in the room, and use a consistently formal salutation and closing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear and useful sequence: you explain the circumstances and likely location, describe why the papers matter, and then state the action you want the manager to take. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “because” help connect related ideas. The reader can follow the request without difficulty. Some connections are less smooth in the final paragraph, where several requests are joined together in a long sequence: “check the room and lost-and-found department and ask…” followed by “If you found then contact me immediately.” Separating these into clearer sentences and using more precise references would make the cohesion more flexible and less abrupt.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “personal and professional information,” “original certificates,” “time-consuming,” and “safe delivery.” These choices communicate the importance of the papers and the requested action. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors that reduce precision, such as “accidentaly,” “discription,” and “offical.” “Cleaning stay” is also an inaccurate phrase for the hotel employees you mean, and “business call” may not clearly describe why you were distracted. Proofreading spelling and choosing more natural collocations would strengthen the letter’s formal tone. For example, refer to “cleaning staff” and “work-related documents” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the meaning remains clear. You use subordinate clauses in “because I was in hurry” and “which are crucial for my next project,” as well as conditional forms in the request. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with verb forms and sentence patterns: “I leaved hotel” should be “I left the hotel,” while “If you found then contact me” needs a consistent conditional structure, such as “If you find them, please contact me.” Articles and prepositions also need attention in “in hurry” and “I am looking to your response.” Practising accurate past-tense narration and polite request structures would improve control.
