Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

hope this letter finds you in your good health!

My name is Martha I stayed in your hotel in room no. 402 located on 4th floor 2 days back on 02/11/2026I booked the room under the my name. I strongly believe that I left my very important and confidential documents in the room, may be in right side of the drawer or on the study table.

furthermore, documents are related to the upcoming new project and i dont have another copy of it. I'd highly appreciate if you could post at my mailing address or at the work place.

thirdly, nothing is possible then I'd request you to keep it safely and will pick it up in next 1-2 days. kindly let me know once you find the documents so that I'll be relieved. appreciate your cooperation.

sincerely

Martha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify room 402 and suggest the drawer or study table, explain that the papers concern an upcoming project and have no spare copy, and ask the manager to send them or keep them for collection. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The importance is explained, though briefly, and the request could be more fully specified—for example, provide a mailing or workplace address and clarify what to do if neither delivery option is possible. The response is also below the required 150 words, so it needs a little more relevant detail. The clear coverage of the task is a strength, but fuller development of the explanation and instructions would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a generally sensible order: it identifies your stay and the likely location of the papers, explains their importance, and then makes requests. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages. However, the progression is weakened by mechanical sequencing such as “furthermore” and “thirdly,” which do not clearly express the relationship between the ideas. The final request, “nothing is possible then,” is also unclear, making it harder to follow the intended alternative. Use more natural transitions and group the delivery and collection options into a clearly ordered request. The overall arrangement is coherent, but links and references are not consistently clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “confidential documents,” “upcoming new project,” and “mailing address,” which communicate the main points. There are also attempts at formal expressions such as “I’d highly appreciate” and “appreciate your cooperation.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “in your good health” is an awkward opening, “right side of the drawer” is less natural than “right-hand drawer,” and “nothing is possible” does not clearly convey the intended meaning. Spelling and informal forms such as “dont” and “may be” also need attention. Aim for precise, natural collocations and consistent formal wording to improve flexibility and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including “I strongly believe that I left…” and a conditional request beginning “If…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. For example, “hope this letter finds you…” lacks a subject, and “I stayed in your hotel… 2 days back on 02/11/2026I booked…” contains a run-on sentence with missing punctuation. The conditional “nothing is possible then I’d request…” is incomplete, while “under the my name” has an article error. Use complete sentences, check articles and verb forms, and punctuate each idea clearly. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the letter.
