Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some individuals feel that, more time is used by learning facts instead of hands on skills from primary schools to universities. This essay will discuss reasons behind this trend and I partially agree with this statement.

It is often argued that, practical programs are necessary as it improve employment. To illustrate, students who learned from their internship have more opportunities for job. For instance, I did eight month unpaid internship in the daycare which was given by my school ,and for my last practicum I got paid site because of my practical skills. Thus, hand on learning open various career options.

Nevertheless, learning facts are also crucial to understand the basics of every profession. To elaborate, it is not only work for professionalism but also useful for real-life experiences. For example, if any person wants to be teacher, he or she should have basic knowledge of the subject. Therefore, base of any subject either personal or professional life will be starts from theory for more clarity.

As a consequence, both practical skills and theoretical knowledge should be equal weight. I believe that, from primary studies to higher studies time must be divided equally in facts as well as practical for the better understanding of concepts among students.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal position. However, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement (207 words), which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped due to the brevity. To improve, you should expand on your examples and provide more detailed explanations for your arguments. For instance, the point about theoretical knowledge could be further elaborated by discussing how it fosters critical thinking or long-term adaptability in a career, rather than just stating it is necessary for professionalism.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To illustrate', 'Nevertheless', and 'As a consequence' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and minor errors in sentence structure. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, ensure that your cohesive devices are used more naturally and that your paragraphing consistently supports the logical development of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'internship', 'practicum', and 'theoretical knowledge'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'hand on learning' (should be 'hands-on learning') and 'base of any subject... will be starts' (should be 'starts'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to avoid repetition and improve the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'more time is used by learning' (should be 'more time is spent learning'), 'it improve employment' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'base... will be starts' (incorrect verb tense). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tense usage, and refining your complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
