Student answer (Band 7.0)

Education plays a vital role in shaping the future of any nation. Some individuals opine that from initial stage of schooling until university level, it is essential to devote more time on educating theoretical knowledge instead of focusing on practical abilities. I completely disagree with this perspective because I believe the balanced approach is the best approach for an overall development of a children.

To commence with, Practical skills such as communication and critical thinking help a student to face the future eventualities. Students need to learn how to deal with the uncertain situations to become a responsible citizen of the nation. Practical skills make the student independent and confident enough to sustain in the competitive world. Therefore, it is very essential school to spent enough time on these interpersonal skills.

On the other side, theoretical facts are also vital for the clarity and understanding of how things works. For instance, schools need to ensure that students are aware of the principle of any experiment before doing it practically to remain safe and take wise decision. However, theoretical knowledge gives clear picture about how the particular thing works, practical experiment provide better understanding of possible consequences. As a result, for the overall development of any students not only depend on theoretical facts but also on the practical skills.

To conclude, Although theoretical facts are essential for the clarity, practical skills such as communication and critical thinking are also necessary for the rounded development of any nation. I believe schools and universities need to spent equal amount of time in teaching theoretical facts and practical skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have clearly addressed the prompt and maintained a consistent position throughout the essay. You acknowledge the importance of both theoretical and practical knowledge while arguing for a balanced approach. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, although some points, such as the specific examples of 'eventualities' or 'responsible citizen', could be further extended with more concrete illustrations to reach a higher band. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task by providing a clear argument supported by logical reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the other side', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be better linked to show the contrast more effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'eventualities', 'interpersonal skills', and 'theoretical facts'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'initial stage of schooling' (should be 'early stages') and 'spent enough time' (should be 'spend'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some phrasing feels slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('a children' should be 'a child' or 'children') and verb tense/form issues ('school to spent' should be 'schools to spend'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are occasional slips. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your score.
