Student answer (Band 7.0)

I somewhat agree to the statement as I have slightly different stance on this. I agree that on primary level enough time is not provided for practical skills. However, if we consider the university education, It varies from one institutes to another. There are some pioneer universities which focuses more on the practical knowledge and skills development which helps students in real life rather than on learning facts.

However, I acknowledge that for the primary education the time is heavily spent after facts and syllabus. majority of schools across the region consist the same syllabus and focuses on grades rather than finding the hidden talent in each individual. This fact is becoming well known and number of institutes are coming up with innovations but it is restrained to some extent. For example, Many schools have introduced art and drawing classes from initial grades but still they are optional subjects and credits in those subjects have very minor implications on overall grade. Teachers highly prioritize the conventional subject like Math and Science.

At university level, we see diverse options. There are several universities which focuses on a specific trade or subjects. Students acquire knowledge with practical lessons and learn the real life application of that concept. It is true that few universities spend maximum time on teaching facts rather than practical skills but there are better universities available for students. For example, University of Toronto where number of specializations are available. One can excel their practical skills as well as educational knowledge in their own way with the guidance of world class professor.

Eventually, I do agree with the statement for primary education although, I do not fully agree in terms of university education.

Overall7.0

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed the prompt by providing a nuanced position that distinguishes between primary and university education. Your ideas are relevant, and you have supported them with examples, such as the mention of art classes in schools and the University of Toronto. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments. For instance, explaining the long-term consequences of focusing on facts versus practical skills would add depth. Your position is clear throughout, though the introduction could be more direct in stating your stance on the overall balance of education.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'For example,' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more precise. For instance, the transition between the primary school paragraph and the university paragraph could be smoother. Additionally, some sentences are slightly repetitive in structure. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'innovations,' 'conventional,' and 'specializations.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'spent after facts' (should be 'spent on facts') and 'consist the same syllabus' (should be 'consist of the same syllabus'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I somewhat agree to the statement' (should be 'with'), 'one institutes' (should be 'one institute'), and 'focuses' (should be 'focus' when referring to plural universities). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are occasional errors in capitalization and article usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
