Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that education institutions are spending too much time on the theory section instead of teaching the practical skills to the students. I completely agree with the statement and will explain my stance in upcoming paragraphs.
First and foremost, the theoretical knowledge can be easily gained in today's era instead of mesmerizing it for a long time. This is primarily because, one can easily access the information online by visiting different platforms such as websites and AI tools. For Instance, many chapters of the World War 1 can be easily find out on the website whenever needed instead of learning by heart in the schools. Also, the particular time can be invested in learning different skills.
Furthermore, practical skills play a crucial role in the student's life. The main rationale behind this is when they will become job seekers, the industries will be looking for a technical skill instead of theoretical question. To illustrate this, in India, the TATA group ask the student to perform a practical skill on the car manufacturing system instead of asking the general mechanical engineering questions. In addition, The government of India is taking an initiative to promote practical skills during school while reducing a certain amount of chapter from the book to realise the burden.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the students should focus more on skills instead of spending time on learning facts as the industries are looking for practical skills and also one can easily get the theoretical knowledge from online websites whenever needed.

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons and examples, such as the mention of AI tools and the TATA group recruitment process, which support your argument effectively. The ideas are extended, though some points could be developed with more depth to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on the Indian government's initiative is a strong point but could be elaborated upon to explain how it specifically impacts the balance between theory and practice. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition from discussing online information to the example of World War 1 is clear, but the connection to the final sentence about 'particular time' could be more explicit. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'theoretical knowledge', 'practical skills', and 'job seekers'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'mesmerizing it' is used incorrectly; you likely meant 'memorizing'. Additionally, 'realise the burden' should be 'relieve the burden'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage to reach a higher band. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the theoretical question' (should be plural or uncountable), 'TATA group ask' (subject-verb agreement), and 'reducing a certain amount of chapter' (should be plural). Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear, and the mistakes do not cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and pluralization rules. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help elevate your score in this criterion.
