Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that nowadays due to a lot of competition in every sector , mostly schools or universities spent their time to teach people to remember the things or facts rather than teach them practical skills. While I agree with this situation,I also believe that in some cases it's better to apply the concept practically.

There are many reasons why in some schools or universities teachers spent their time on students to learn and remember the facts in education. The first and foremost reason is that nowadays the syllabus provided in schools and universities are really huge and to cover that syllabus which requires a lot of time .Hence , teachers prefer students to just learn quickly so they can move to another topic or lesson rather than teaching them practically.Secondly , in some subjects like physics, maths and also in chemistry there are some important terms which are not able to teach practically like formulas , equations etcetera, so it's better to just memorize them.

However, there are some reasons why some agree that schools or universities don't just have to focus on students to just learn facts and figures but teach them practically. To begin with , there are some topics which are not just for memorize them but to apply the concept in the real world so teach them practically makes a huge difference. For example , students who are doing medical students are better to teach them practically because without any practical knowledge they are not able to understand the concept of human body and everything.

Additionally, if teachers teach the students by giving the practical examples and show them practically the students are able to remember for long time. For example , if someone is going to learn foreign language if they just start remembering the things they are not going to be learn that language and if they know how to use the grammatical rules and apply then when they are trying to speak then it will be so helpful.

In conclusion, I would like to conclude that while there are some areas where it's good to memorize the facts , although I believe that teach the students by using practical methods is more beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant, such as the mention of syllabus pressure and the necessity of practical application in medical fields. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and fourth paragraphs, where the focus on 'remembering' versus 'practical' is restated without significant new depth. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to provide more nuanced examples or explore the implications of these educational approaches more thoroughly rather than simply restating the core premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'Secondly', and 'To begin with'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'I would like to conclude that while there are some areas where it's good to memorize the facts , although I believe...'. The use of 'although' in this context is grammatically redundant. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. The student relies heavily on simple terms like 'things', 'learn', and 'teach'. Phrases like 'facts and figures' and 'huge difference' are somewhat generic. There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'doing medical students' instead of 'studying medicine' and 'not able to teach practically' instead of 'cannot be taught practically'. To improve, the student should incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to educational theory.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and prepositions (e.g., 'spent their time to teach' instead of 'spend their time teaching', 'not able to teach' instead of 'cannot be taught', and 'not going to be learn' instead of 'not going to learn'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of spaces before commas. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
