Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is believed by certain group of individuals that in school and universities only learning facts are prioritized than practical skills. Indeed, I am totally agree with the given statement and will analyse particular reasons for that in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, learning institutes majorly focus on theoretical parts because of less availability of practical resources. Many schools often have more classrooms than practical labs because they require more investments, especially in rural areas. For instance, many scholars from countryside areas claimed that the majority of practical labs in there areas do not have proper equipments and in some places practical laboratories are not available.

Moving further, the other primary reason behind this is large volume of learners. It is more convenient for teachers to explain about facts in the classroom than by doing practical in the lab. Moreover, providing demo about facts is quite impossible to many students because it can be explain to few scholars at a same time. For example, a former student from India revealed that his college often missed practical part of his courses due limited capacity of practical rooms. These clearly highlight reasons why students often miss practical skills while studying in schools and colleges.

In conclusion, although devoting time for learning facts is essential, I strongly believe that exposure to practical skills is equally significant. Governments should invest equally for classroom settings and practical labs to generate a well qualified and practically sound working professionals in the future. Rather than only depending on authorities parents should also support their children to develop practical skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have identified two main reasons for the imbalance between facts and practical skills: lack of resources and the logistical challenges of large class sizes. While the ideas are relevant, they could be further developed with more specific analysis. For instance, the discussion on 'large volume of learners' is a good point, but the explanation of why this makes practical work 'impossible' is slightly underdeveloped. Overall, the position is consistent, and the conclusion provides a balanced summary and a suggestion for improvement, which strengthens the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving further', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the phrase 'These clearly highlight reasons' is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the ideas follow a logical sequence, which makes the essay easy to follow despite some minor lapses in cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'theoretical parts', 'practical resources', and 'well qualified'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'learning institutes' (should be 'educational institutions'), 'equipments' (equipment is an uncountable noun), and 'in there areas' (should be 'in their areas'). To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and avoid basic errors in word form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'I am totally agree' (should be 'I totally agree'), 'many scholars from countryside areas claimed' (should be 'students from rural areas'), and 'it can be explain' (should be 'it can be explained'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and pluralization. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction would be beneficial.
