Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a modern education system, instructors and professionals are focusing heavily on completing curriculum in a fixed time interval. Some people believe that in all levels of education, from primary schools to higher education, too much time is spent on learning facts and theories. Well, I completely agree with this statement, as schools and universities are focusing less on practical learning and skills.

On the one hand, education institutes plays a significant role in creating strong foundation for students. Therefore, students join schools and universities not only to gain theoretical and bookish knowledge, but also expect to develop practical and necessary life skills. However, education institutes are teaching various subjects which includes history, science, mathematics, language courses and sports. Due to this, universities and schools find it difficult to focus equally on practical leanings.

On the other hand, education system should find a way to add practical knowledge and skill development as a subject in a curriculum. If schools and universities add such subjects, it brings students growth, ideas, development and skills. As a result, students are able to find better jobs or develop skills to operate successful business, which helps them to live successful life. In addition, students can gain practical knowledge at an early age, where they can skip free internship programs and unpaid jobs to gain experience.

In conclusion, although education system helps to create a strong foundation for students and develop ideas, I think that they should focus equally on developing practical skills and shared practical knowledge to students. Moreover, they should also prioritize practical subjects instead of sharing knowledge on languages and sports.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. You address the prompt by discussing the need for practical skills in education. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, in the second paragraph, you mention that schools teach subjects like history and science, but you do not fully explain why these are less valuable than practical skills or how exactly the curriculum could be balanced. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the consequences of the current system. The conclusion is clear, but the suggestion to prioritize practical subjects over languages and sports is a bit abrupt and could have been better integrated into the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing the importance of a foundation to the list of subjects in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the use of referencing could be improved to avoid repetitive sentence structures. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'curriculum,' 'theoretical,' and 'foundation' correctly. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'bookish knowledge' (which is slightly informal) and 'operate successful business' (which lacks an article). You also rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as using 'education institutes' and 'schools and universities' multiple times. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and collocations related to the topic of education and professional development. Your spelling is generally accurate, and your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'education institutes plays' (subject-verb agreement error), 'includes history' (should be 'include'), and 'live successful life' (missing article). You also have some issues with pluralization and articles. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to vary your sentence structure further by using more complex subordinating clauses.
