Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a partial stance, but the development of ideas is limited. While you identify reasons for the focus on theory (competition and lack of resources), the explanation is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. The conclusion is very brief and does not fully summarise the main points. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement. To improve, ensure you provide more detailed examples and fully develop your arguments in each paragraph to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'to expound' and 'in this case'. The logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the discussion of school resources and the conclusion. While there is a basic attempt at paragraphing, the flow of ideas could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'educational territories' instead of 'educational institutions' and 'outside boundaries' instead of 'external organisations'. Some phrases are repetitive, and there is a lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic terminology related to education, such as 'curriculum', 'vocational training', or 'theoretical framework', rather than relying on general, slightly misused terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'There are some people believe' (missing 'who'), 'collages' (spelling error for 'colleges'), and 'need to spent time' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalisation. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage.
