Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary world, a number of individuals believe that a huge amount of time is devoted to enhance academic knowledge whether students are in elementary, High school or in universities and very less on practical knowledge. I strongly agree with this statement and I will elaborate further in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, students are pressured to get high scores in exams from the beginning of their educational journey. Considering that good grades are crucial to excel in life than the real hand-on skills. They start believing better grades are essential for a good job. As a result, pupils spent most of their study time in mugging up whole theories line by line without understanding a single word. For instance, learning how cells of onion looks like under a microscope. Which could be extremely easy when done in a real microscope rather than imagining by reading about it.

In addition to that, lengthy syllabuses in schools makes it more difficult for students and teachers to allocate spare time to perform practical activities of the theories which learners are taught. On top of that, lack of resources to hampers the practical learning. For example, students of impoverished countries can only learn by theories than practical. So, they allow students learn without any practical skills. As many people believe those skills can be developed later when are on the field.

To sum up, I believe that raising competition and unavailability of proper resources learners are tend to spent more time on gaining academic skills than real life practical skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position and addressed the prompt throughout the essay. You provided relevant reasons, such as the pressure for high grades and the lack of resources in certain regions. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding the onion cell is a good start, but it could be expanded to explain why this shift in focus is detrimental to long-term career success. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more depth and nuance rather than moving quickly to the next point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and you have used some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'In addition to that', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. For example, the sentence 'Which could be extremely easy when done in a real microscope...' is a fragment and disrupts the flow. Additionally, some transitions feel repetitive. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each sentence connects smoothly to the previous one will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on some informal or imprecise phrasing, such as 'mugging up' and 'very less'. While your meaning is clear, the use of more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary would enhance your score. For example, instead of 'mugging up', you could use 'rote memorization'. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific terminology related to education and pedagogy would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('syllabuses... makes', 'learners are tend to spent'), incorrect preposition usage, and sentence fragments. While these errors do not completely obscure your meaning, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing auxiliary verbs or incorrect verb forms.
