Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued by many individuals that most of the syllabus of all levels of education, from primary schools to universities, includes learning facts not the practical skills, meaning to learning practical skills is not given that much importance that to learning facts and theories. From my perspective, this statement is not true because universities often provide same weightage to both concepts.

Beginning with first factor why I disaccord with this perception is that universities studies are designed in the way that they provide equal support to both students' theoretical and pragmatic knowledge. Even though institutions which educate pupils at primary and secondary level do not focus much teaching practical knowledge to the pupils, colleges and universities mainly focus on providing equal time to these different study patterns, allowing children to develop their both skills at the same time. For instance, the majority of universities in Pakistan were not providing same amount of time and efforts to practical skill development courses which resulted a dropout in the admissions and new enrolments and thereby led those admissions of students into international institutions; therefore, Pakistani universities and colleges also adopted this method of teaching.

Moving to the another reason, university education is also designed specifically to impart the practical skills and abilities into the learners. Schools mainly foster knowledge into kids which then practised in pragmatic ways at tertiary level, including universities and colleges. Not only do universities offer courses which are build to learn practical things, but it also provide students adequate time and required equipment to hone and excel in these skills, justifying the fact that lower institutions may provide much time to theoretical subjects but it is not true for institutes who provide higher level of education.

In conclusion, the aforementioned reasons, the framework and the main purpose of university education, makes it apparent that equal time is given to both areas of knowledge whether it is theoretical or practical.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the statement. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for your stance, the argument relies heavily on a specific example regarding Pakistani universities, which limits the scope of your discussion. The prompt asks about all levels of education, but your essay focuses almost exclusively on the tertiary level, neglecting primary and secondary education. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments cover the breadth of the prompt more comprehensively and provide more balanced support for your claims across the different educational stages mentioned in the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Beginning with first factor', 'Moving to the another reason', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'meaning to learning practical skills is not given that much importance that to learning facts'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, which occasionally disrupts the flow of your argument. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help create a more seamless reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pragmatic', 'tertiary level', and 'impart'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'universities studies', 'disaccord with this perception', and 'courses which are build to learn'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a lack of precision. To improve, focus on collocations and ensure that you are using words in their correct grammatical form. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated academic vocabulary would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'resulted a dropout' (should be 'resulted in') and 'allowing children to develop their both skills' (should be 'both of their skills'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors rarely impede the reader's understanding, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
