Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, though the development of ideas is inconsistent. You attempt to argue for the importance of theoretical knowledge, but the logic is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the second paragraph where the argument regarding 'optional subjects' is unclear and lacks relevance to the core debate of facts versus practical skills. While you provide a personal opinion, the supporting arguments are under-developed and occasionally contradictory. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained point that directly supports your thesis, and provide more logical examples that clearly illustrate the benefits of practical versus theoretical education.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To vindicate' or 'Is their any other support point ? yes, indeed.' These phrases do not flow naturally within an academic context. Additionally, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the basic message, but there are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'signifinance', 'inviduals', 'deam', 'persent', and 'carrer'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. You attempt to use some higher-level vocabulary like 'paramount' and 'articulated', but the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using collocations correctly. Try to expand your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to education and professional development, and ensure you proofread your work to catch simple spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a lot of time is consume'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors, such as spaces before commas. These errors are persistent and sometimes impede the clarity of your sentences. While you attempt complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Practice using complex sentences (e.g., using 'although', 'because', or 'which') in isolation before integrating them into your essays to ensure they are grammatically sound.
