Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the value of academic knowledge and the need for practical skills. However, the position is somewhat contradictory; you state you 'strongly agree' with the idea that too much time is spent on facts, yet your first body paragraph argues in favor of deep academic learning. This lack of a clear, consistent stance throughout the essay limits the development of your argument. While you provide relevant examples, such as the USA's technological advancements and India's unemployment issues, the ideas are not fully extended, and the conclusion does not clearly synthesize your position, as it merely restates that both views have value.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'Nowadays.' or 'While others say...'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the introduction where the connection between the prompt and your thesis is disjointed. Paragraphing is present, but the flow between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors, making the progression of your argument feel slightly disjointed at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your main points. You use some topic-specific terms like 'unemployment rate', 'academics', and 'technologies'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'stable in job', 'bookish knowledge', and 'hand on skills' (should be 'hands-on'). These errors occasionally impede the precision of your expression. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing, as the range of vocabulary remains somewhat limited and basic throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('student are', 'one of the reason'), incorrect preposition usage, and punctuation errors, such as starting sentences with 'Nowadays.' and 'While others say...'. There are also issues with sentence fragments and run-on sentences, such as '...due to it helps to broaden their knowledge, but also many find it difficult to get a job. which will be explained below.' While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity and flow of your writing.
