Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response addresses the prompt regarding whether too much time is spent on learning facts rather than practical skills in education. The writer takes a clear position agreeing with this view. However, the ideas remain quite limited and under-developed due to insufficient elaboration and repetitive arguments. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 233 words. This negative word count requires a penalty under Task Achievement, bringing the score down into the Band 4 range. To achieve a higher score, the writer must ensure the word count exceeds 250 words and expand upon ideas with detailed explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text shows some basic paragraphing, but the overall organization and logical progression are weak. Transitions between ideas are frequently abrupt or missing, and cohesive devices are inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'for instance' and 'some time'. Referencing is also unclear in places, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of argument. For example, sentences like 'After the compeleted degree some people have been taking too much time for searching job...' lack smooth integration. Overall, the structural progression of the essay is heavily disrupted by these cohesion issues, placing it firmly in Band 4.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with numerous word-choice and spelling errors that strain the reader's understanding. Examples of errors include 'wast' instead of 'waste', 'learing' instead of 'learning', 'knowlege' instead of 'knowledge', 'extermly' instead of 'extremely', 'socity' instead of 'society', 'persnol' instead of 'personal', 'immposable' instead of 'impossible', and 'eachothere' instead of 'each other'. There is a very limited range of vocabulary used, and uncommon lexical items are not attempted successfully. This level of lexical control corresponds to Band 4 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are heavily flawed. There are frequent, pervasive errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure that often distort the meaning, such as 'Many individual feel that from the start to the end of universities education is wast too much time' and 'in the last there age is over for job they take retirment for there career.' Punctuation is also poorly handled, with run-on sentences and missing terminal punctuation in the final paragraph. Because errors are frequent and cause considerable difficulty for the reader, a Band 4 score is appropriate.
