Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often arugued that all levels of education, from primary schools to universities spent handsome amount of time on learning facts instead improving practical skills. I disagree with the statement because learning practical skills allowing children to be more creative and increase job opportunities in future.

Learning facts in all levels of education, from primary schools to universities is important for the core knowledge of subjects. However, implementing theory knowledge into real-time projects increase children's creativity. That is to say basic syntaxs mentioned in programming textbook is not understandable to children unless they run these syntaxs on computer and see outputs in real-time. In this way, children can implement own ideas and create something effective to the society. For example, in North America coaching institues alocate two hours of practical session for every children, where they can perfome different activities what they learned in classroom. As a result, those children are more creative who constantly participate in practical session.

After spending too much time learning practical skills creates various job opportunities to children. This is because, having knowledge about experiments regarding different chemicals in school and university, children could choose different fields to pursue their career such as scientiests or production of medicine. For instance, children who has knowledge about how one chemical reacts with another substance can choose career in industry where medicine is produce and can uses of knowledge they could invent medicine to cure life threating disease such as Cancer or CORONA.

Overall, learning facts is important while studying in primary schools to universities is benefical to improve core knowledge about subjects. I believe practical knowledge allow students to be more creative and have different fields for work in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance against the idea that too much time is spent on learning facts, arguing instead that practical skills foster creativity and enhance career opportunities. The student attempts to develop ideas through examples, such as programming syntax and chemical experiments, which keeps the essay relevant. However, the development in body paragraphs remains somewhat repetitive and general. For instance, the transition into the second body paragraph relies heavily on a restatement of the prompt rather than a smooth logical extension. Furthermore, some arguments are slightly unfocused regarding how facts versus practical skills are balanced in education. Despite these minor limitations, the main position is sustained throughout, corresponding well to a Band 6.0 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty and mechanical. For instance, phrases like 'After spending too much time learning practical skills' introduce the second body paragraph awkwardly and misrepresent the author's intended logical flow, as they are actually advocating for more practical skills. Referencing and conjunctions are sometimes misused, such as 'For instance, children who has knowledge...', which disrupts the smooth progression of ideas. While the logical organization is generally clear enough to guide the reader, the overuse and misuse of certain cohesive ties place this response firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'core knowledge', 'real-time projects', and 'life threating disease'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'arugued' (spelling), 'syntaxs' (plural form error), 'coaching institues', 'alocate', and 'perfome'. There are also repetitive lexical choices, such as the frequent use of 'children' and 'practical skills'. While these vocabulary inaccuracies and spelling slips do not severely impede communication because the overall meaning remains clear, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over subordinate clauses, as seen in 'I disagree with the statement because learning practical skills allowing children to be more creative...'. However, this sentence contains a noticeable grammatical error ('allowing' instead of 'allows'). There are several other frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('universities spent' instead of 'spend', 'children who has knowledge'), missing prepositions, and incorrect verb forms ('where medicine is produce and can uses of knowledge'). Although these errors do not completely obscure the intended message, they occur with enough frequency to prevent the essay from reaching a Band 6.0, aligning best with Band 5.5.
