Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response clearly states a position in the introduction, strongly agreeing with the prompt that too much time is spent on learning facts. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The body paragraphs attempt to provide reasons, such as the utility of practical skills for jobs, but the supporting examples like 'students learn history and formula' are underdeveloped and unclearly expressed. Furthermore, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 192 words. This severe under-length restricts the full development of the argument, which directly impacts the task achievement score. To improve, the candidate needs to expand their supporting arguments with detailed explanations and ensure the word count requirement is fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive statements and abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and often inappropriately, such as 'Out of all, the first and foremost reason of the fact are not useful for job'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the conclusion simply repeats phrases from the body paragraphs rather than synthesizing the arguments effectively. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links between sentences require substantial strengthening to achieve a clearer flow and logical progression throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and restricted to simple terms appropriate for lower proficiency levels. Phrases like 'vital role', 'strong agree', and 'better future' show some attempt at common collocations, but there are numerous lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'reason of the fact are not useful for job' and 'formula its show'. Less common vocabulary is largely absent, and word formation errors are evident throughout the text. Spelling is generally acceptable for common words, but the limited range and frequent inaccuracies constrain the lexical score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or incomplete, such as 'If some people say facts is important, it is outweighed by practical skills.' There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('a number of people say... are', 'facts is important'), tense consistency, and punctuation (missing spaces after commas and periods). These recurring errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, although the overall meaning remains discernible. Greater control over basic sentence construction and a wider variety of accurate complex forms are needed.
