Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that practical skills are as essential as learning facts. However, most of the time, everybody is spending more time on learning facts than perfoming practical about facts, whether its school or university. some people say that schools or universities should put more focus on practical skills and I completely agree with this notion. I will explain my reasons behind it in the upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, there are a plethora of reasons why schools and universities should put more focus on teaching practical skills. The first and foremost reason is that the value of practical skill is more than learning facts. This is because practical skills will be crucial and must have while applying for the job. For example, employers will look for projects than theory knowledge when they hire for software developer. Furthermore, students find easy to remember the topics when they perform its practical after learning theory.

Another reason is that pupils get bored when schools only focus on theory. Practical brings fun and make students interactive. In addition, students engage more then they perform some practical. To illustrate an example, physics is believed to be hard subject to understand. However, if same subject is taught with some addition of practical than student can understand it more clearly. On the other side, some schools or colleges do not have enough equipments or limited sources to perform practial. Hence, they focus more on theoretical skills.

To conclude, although schools and universities focus more on learnig facts due to inadequte equipments or limited source, I still believe that they should try to focus more on practical skills as it would be helpful in student's career.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that more focus should be placed on practical skills rather than learning facts. The main ideas are presented and supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as mentioning software development jobs and physics classes. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed and tend to over-generalize, such as the mention of inadequate equipment in the third body paragraph which introduces a counterpoint that is not fully integrated into the main argument. Overall, the task is adequately addressed in line with Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'On the other side,' and occasional issues with referencing, such as 'if same subject' lacking an article. Logical progression is present, but some linking devices feel slightly awkward, placing this firmly at Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'plethora', 'inadequate', and 'theoretical'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'perfoming practical about facts', 'theory knowledge', and 'equipments' (equipment is uncountable). These errors do not impede communication, allowing the response to achieve a Band 6 score for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses ('if same subject is taught...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in punctuation, articles, and word forms, such as 'everybody is spending', 'students find easy to remember', and 'when student can understand'. While these errors occasionally cause minor difficulty, communication is rarely impeded, which corresponds to a Band 6 level.
