Student answer (Band 6.0)

Undoubtedly, education plays a vital role in the holistic development of any person. It is a debatable issue that in all educational institutes, whether it is primary schools or universities, only emphasis is given to the theoretical part rather than the practical aspect. I totally agree with this notion, and the following paragraphs will discuss how.

To begin with, when a child is in nursery class, the focus is on rote memorization rather than learning by heart. For example, a kid in pre-primary class can narrate the whole poem to anyone, but if they miss a single word, then they feel demotivated. So, rather than focusing only on learning facts, they should be taught by a play-way method in which a few students play the role of the characters of the poem or story. In this way, learners could retain what they have learned in small classes till they die.

Furthermore, when scholars enter universities, there are certain topics which do not have any practical implication in their personal and professional life, but still they have to study them as a part of their syllabus. For example, in high school, they have already been taught what is the meaning of partnership in accounting, if same thing is done at the higher level of studies then what is the benefit of enrolling in the degrees? So, in higher education, more co-op or internships should be included so that students can know how in relaity things work.

In conclusion, although learnig facts are important but knowing them from heart and their practical implication would have lasting impact in student's life. If they are undergone any internship there are in the postion to understand it well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-developed position that too much time is spent on learning facts rather than practical skills. The student introduces relevant ideas and supports them with examples from different educational stages, such as nursery classes and universities. For instance, the mention of rote memorisation in early childhood and the repetition of accounting topics in higher education effectively illustrate the argument. Although some of the supporting explanations are slightly generalised, the main position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are extended and supported adequately, satisfying the requirements for this band level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a clear overall progression with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The writer uses standard cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure of the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different stages of education. However, referencing is occasionally unclear or slightly awkward, such as the pronoun use in 'if same thing is done at the higher level of studies then what is the benefit'. While the logical organisation is generally effective, the mechanical nature of some transitions prevents the response from reaching a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'holistic development', 'rote memorisation', and 'practical implication'. However, there are noticeable word choice errors, spelling mistakes, and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'learnig facts', 'knowing them from heart', and 'in relaity'. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication. To improve further, the writer should focus on precision in word choice and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures present, such as 'only emphasis is given to the theoretical part', 'if they miss a single word, then they feel demotivated', and 'If they are undergone any internship there are in the postion to understand it well.' Punctuation and article usage are occasionally faulty. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from achieving a higher score.
