Student answer (Band 4.5)
Many people say that in all levels of education, from primary schools to universities, too much time is spent on learning facts and not enough on learning practical skills.Yes i agree with them because when i was younger and in school same concept was followed by my teachera. Thrice a week we have practical class but that is only for one hour. Remaining week only focus is on learning skills. we had total three laboratories in our school and one laboratorty for each science subject where we perform practicals. In biology lab we perforn different practicals on living things and watch how human body grow in microscopes . In chemistry lab we perform different experiments by mixing different chemicals and learn how to preserve things . In physics lab we learn about different machines . So practicals are very important for life and i think this one hour is sufficent for skills.
Because our main focus is on learning facts and these are more important in our everyday life because we atudy different subjects and each subjects takes time to memorize and in every subject we learn new things and our knowledge is increased dy by day.
As we take an example of dutch scientist who told his students that facts are very important in life when you know and learn about facts you got success in life like him. No doubt practice makes mans perfect. But when you stop practicing you are not perfect. So, from learning different facts he became successful in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position on whether too much time is spent on learning facts versus practical skills. However, the development of ideas is somewhat contradictory and limited. In the first paragraph, the writer appears to agree that too much time is spent on facts, yet concludes by stating that one hour of practical work is sufficient and that facts are more important in everyday life. This creates confusion regarding the writer's ultimate stance. Furthermore, the examples provided, such as the anecdote about a Dutch scientist, are vague and lack full development. While the prompt is addressed, the ideas would benefit from clearer positioning and deeper elaboration to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text demonstrates some organization, but overall coherence is hindered by poor paragraphing and a lack of clear logical progression. The entire essay is structured into overly long, dense blocks, or abrupt single-sentence paragraphs like 'Yes i agree with them...'. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of 'different' and 'and' to link clauses together. Referencing can also be unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments smoothly. Paragraphing is not used sufficiently or appropriately to separate distinct points about school experiences versus general philosophical arguments about facts.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'different', 'learn', 'facts', and 'practical'. There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'teachera' instead of teachers, 'laboratorty' instead of laboratory, 'perforn' instead of perform, 'grow' instead of grow, 'atudy' instead of study, and 'dy by day' instead of day by day. While the language is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning, the narrow range of vocabulary and frequent mechanical errors restrict the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writing exhibits a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' and 'so'. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to run-on sentences and punctuation errors, such as missing capitalization ('Yes i agree', 'we had') and missing commas. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('each subjects takes time', 'human body grow') and tense inconsistencies. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of basic grammatical structures.
