Student answer (Band 6.0)

Education is an essential element of everyone's life. Owing to that, many people believe that the amount of time spending on the factual learning is more compared to practical learning in all stages of education, from primary schools to universities. I personally completely agree with the statement, because of increase in educational competition and to fulfil educational requirements.

In the first place, one major reason, why educational institutes are spending more time on theoretical learning is to compete with other institutes. In other words, in today's time, majorty of schools and colleges are focusing on their reputation. In order to maintain that, internal competitions are being increased and organizations are promoting higher grades compared to developing practical skills of learners . As a result, factual learning takes major time and students are focusing on acquiring good marks in their exams.

Furthermore, it is seen that basic factual learning is necessary for creating foundation of the acedamic knowledge. For that reason, schools always prefer to teach book words and stories to students because they have to fulfil acedamic requirement to get promoted to next standard or level. For example, in India, many schools are providing basic book knowledge to their students just to shift them from one grade to another. As an outcome, organizations follow traditional pathway of teaching theory instead of practical learning and waste their precious time.

To summarize, I personally completely agree with the statement that schools are prefering more factual learning rather than focusing on developing practical skills, in order to fulfil educational requirements and to stay reputed in the competitive society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, stating complete agreement with the prompt. Relevant ideas are presented, such as institutional competition and the need to fulfill educational requirements, but some parts are under-developed. For example, the point about institutional reputation in the second paragraph is introduced but lacks full extension or concrete examples compared to the later mention of India. Overall, the main arguments are clear and directly respond to the prompt, fulfilling the core requirements of this band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct reason for the writer's stance. Cohesive devices such as 'In the first place', 'Furthermore', and 'To summarize' are utilized, though referencing and linking are sometimes a bit mechanical or repetitive. The half-band strength shows a generally clear structure throughout, though smoother transitions between sentences would be needed to reach the next tier.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'educational institutes', 'reputation', and 'traditional pathway'. However, there are notable word choice, collocation, and word form inaccuracies that occasionally affect precision, such as 'time spending on the factual learning', 'majorty', and 'acedamic'. Despite these flaws, the vocabulary remains sufficient to communicate the main message without impeding overall understanding, aligning well with the characteristics of this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'In order to maintain that, internal competitions are being increased and organizations are promoting higher grades compared to developing practical skills of learners.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation present throughout the text, including article omissions and prepositions like 'focusing on their reputation. In order to maintain that, internal competitions are being increased and organizations are promoting higher grades compared to developing practical skills of learners', but these errors rarely impede communication.
